The Song-Kul plateau is the most iconic horse riding destination in Kyrgyzstan. At 3,016 metres, this vast open plateau surrounding the alpine lake is exactly where Kyrgyz nomads have grazed their herds each summer for millennia. Riding here feels timeless — wide open skies, rolling green hills, herds of horses grazing freely and traditional yurts dotting the landscape. Each evening you return to a warm yurt for a home-cooked meal and fall asleep to the sound of wind and horses outside.
Issyk-Kul Southern Shore

A perfect introduction to horse riding in Kyrgyzstan. The southern shore of Issyk-Kul combines lakeshore trails with short climbs into the Terskei Alatau foothills. You ride along beaches with lake views, through villages and into walnut and juniper forests above the shore. Nights are spent in family guesthouses or yurt camps right on the lake. The gentle terrain and warm summer climate make this ideal for families, first-time riders or those who want to combine riding with swimming and relaxation.
Karakol Valley to Jyrgalan

This multi-day route crosses the eastern corner of Kyrgyzstan through some of its most dramatic mountain scenery. Starting in the Karakol Valley, you ride through dense Tien Shan spruce forest, cross high alpine passes with glacier views and descend into the remote Jyrgalan Valley. The route takes you through summer pastures where local herders graze their flocks and into wilderness that few vehicles can reach. Each night in a yurt or family home along the way.
Naryn River Valley Expedition

A long-distance ride through the heart of Kyrgyzstan along the Naryn River valley and its tributaries. This route travels through some of the country's most sparsely populated landscapes — wide canyon valleys, ancient petroglyphs, medieval caravanserai ruins and high steppe pastures where the only signs of life are herds of horses and the occasional eagle. Accommodation alternates between family yurts and simple guesthouses in small villages. A true nomadic journey through authentic Kyrgyzstan.

Do I need prior riding experience?
Not for all routes. We offer routes for complete beginners through to experienced riders. When you plan your trip, just tell us your riding level and we'll match the route accordingly.
What kind of horses are used?
Kyrgyz horses — a sturdy, sure-footed breed developed over centuries for mountain terrain. They are calm, strong and well-suited to the altitude and trail conditions.
What should I bring for a horse riding tour?
Comfortable long trousers, sturdy shoes or boots with a small heel, warm layers (temperatures drop significantly at altitude), sunscreen and a wind/rain jacket. Helmets are available on request.
Is it safe?
Yes. All our horse riding tours are accompanied by experienced local guides who know the horses and terrain well. We assess each rider's level at the start and adjust the pace accordingly.
